BMJ editorial proposal
Editorials for The BMJ are usually commissioned; however, we are happy to consider proposals for unsolicited editorials.

Please fill out the form below to propose an editorial and an editor will reply to you soon. The outcome will be communicated to the lead author only. Please check with the lead author before contacting the editorial team about decisions.

Editorials are 800 word articles usually responding to a topical issue. They must be balanced and evidence based, but clearly written,  with an international general medical audience in mind. We particularly value pitches authored or co authored by patient advocates, representatives, and leaders.

Editorials have a maximum of four authors

IMPORTANT - COMPETING INTERESTS: Editorials on clinical topics operate under a strict competing interest policy that disqualifies authors with even minor financial links to relevant commercial companies.

All proposed authors (not just the lead author) must complete our competing interest form using this link: bit.ly/2QM6cNn.  We are unable to process  pitches with missing competing interest forms

Editorials do not report original data.

We do not consider articles reporting your own research, projects, or initiatives; or letters to the editor.
